Why Carhartt? – The Clothing Warehouse

Why Carhartt?

We were wondering the same thing, so we dug a little deeper into the origin of the trending workwear brand. Carhartt began with founder Hamilton Carhartt in 1889 Detroit with one goal in mind to make quality workwear for manual laborers... 100 years later a couple European designers discussed representing Carhartt internationally. They started by selling Carhartt's original workwear. Later they were granted a license to create their own lines of clothing under the name Carhartt Work In Progress (WIP). WIP is the streetwear version of the Carhartt brand, often marketed as comparable to Stüssy or Supreme. It then started gaining traction in the hip hop scene and migrated to the skate scene thus landing it in many magazines, photoshoots, and even fashion campaigns. Flash forward to now, 2022, many influencers can be seen repping Carhartt and it trended for a bit on TikTok as well - and we all know the power that app wields with fashion trends.

How do workers feel about their day to day workwear trending?

It appears the consensus is "eh". Allow us to elaborate on "eh" - they don't want to wear their work uniform outside of work, it's just downright silly to them, but overall they seem indifferent on the trend of workwear - it's not hurting them right? Right, luckily these brands have not increased their prices due to the trending nature of fashion and we can respect them for that choice.

Why is it expensive?

Well we can tell you it's not just because it's popular, it's due to the construction of their garments. They are built to last through a variety of rough conditions, and the longevity of the pieces speak for themselves. The vintage colored Carhartts tend to go for more as they are getting harder and harder to find - and with rarity the price increases. It's a well-worth-it investment if you ask us.
